Green bacteria on tomato plants and prevention measures

 Tomato wilt, also known as tomato wilt, is a disease that causes great yield losses. There is currently no specific medicine for this disease. Once tomatoes are infected with bacterial wilt, there is no cure. Therefore, farmers need to have early management measures to effectively prevent the disease.

Tomato wilt is caused by the bacteria Ralstonia Solanacearum, also known as Pseudomonas Solanacearum. This is the most serious disease in all tomato growing regions of the world, especially in tropical countries like ours. According to many farmers, tomato wilt often occurs very suddenly. The disease wipes out the entire tomato growing area so quickly that they are caught off guard.

The disease can occur at most growth stages, but is most common at the flowering and fruiting stage, causing huge yield losses.

Characteristics of tomato wilt disease

The bacteria that cause tomato wilt disease exist in the soil, plant residues, and weeds. The bacteria can spread through seedlings, wind, water, insects, and even pruning and care tools. When the plant has mechanical wounds or is stung or bitten by insects in the stem or root area, it creates favorable conditions for bacteria to easily penetrate.

After entering the tomato, they attack the veins and switch the veins, thereby damaging the veins. This causes the plant to be unable to transport water and nutrients, gradually increasing and dying. The rate of use and causing disease in the plant is very fast. We develop quickly when the soil moisture is high, the ideal temperature is 24 - 38 degrees Celsius.

The disease often appears and causes harm at the stage of the grass seedling garden and in the field outside the product.

The initial symptoms of wilt disease on tomato plants are the top leaves wilting and drooping. Then the old leaves at the base continue to wilt and droop. Finally, the whole plant wilts, turns pale, collapses and dies.

The plant wilts suddenly but the leaves are still green. When cutting a section of the diseased stem and placing it in a glass of water, you will see drops of milky white bacterial fluid flowing out.

Observing the part of the base close to the ground of tomato plants with wilt disease, you will see the bark of the stem rough. This is a typical symptom when the plant is infected.

Cultivation measures to prevent wilt disease in tomatoes

- Choose tomato varieties resistant to wilt disease

- Clean the field and remove weeds before planting

- Planting density is adequate: 40-45cm between plants, 70-75cm between rows

- Crop rotation: Rotate with rice or other plants of the nightshade family. Tomatoes should not be grown two consecutive crops on the same land.

- Use composted organic fertilizer, treated organic fertilizer to fertilize, ensuring a balanced ratio of N, P, K

- Uproot diseased plants, collect them and burn them to limit the spread of phosphorus
